CARERS SAVE THE UK £87 BILLION A YEAR? WRONG!!!

Just to say, I am Clive, a Carer for my wife these last 14 years, I started UK Carers because I feel Carers aren't being represented adequately, the Carer charities have no idea what we go through on a day-to-day basis and patronise Carers in the hope they won't speak out for themselves. Well the unthinkable happened a little over 2 years ago, a million hits to our web site and message board later we are still going strong.

We show how the main Carer charity let Carers down, one of the worst cases is this survey/report, call it what you will BUT it is flawed, judge for yourselves

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

The recent survey/report that Carers saved the UK £87 billion pounds a year is based on flawed research. Carers UK commissioned a report using the 2001 census question-

Do you look after or give any help or support to family members, friends or neighbours or others because of: long-term physical or mental ill-health or disability or problems related to old age?

This would include people/Carers that are not eligible for Carers Allowance, it does not relate exclusively to Carers receiving Carers Allowance. ALSO the £87 billion pound total is based on a set hourly wage of £14.50 and NOT an 'average' This is a FLAWED survey/report. Why did Carers UK not check how accurate this would turn out? This is APPALING. Did this charity supply duff figures to the University Of Leeds to carry out this research? It makes them look bad and it gives media the chance to call Carers liars manipulating numbers to gain financially. It's just another example of how poor this charity is and how it's letting down Carers year after year.

Now I know Carers are not the most interesting of subjects but I think you will fid UK Carers a little different. Please pay us a visit OR add your name to our petition
